years and the start of an enormous global campaign around the release
of their next studio album, “We haven’t played in South
Africa for way too long,” says singer Simon Le Bon. “So
we are really looking forward to coming down there. We have spent
the last year sequestered away, working on new music and now have
an album ready for release early in the New Year – so we can’t
wait to get back out on the road again and do some shows,” he
says. “We have actually never played in South Africa before
as the original line-up – so this will be a first for us performing
there with Roger in the band!” Nick Rhodes interview on whatson.co.za

The ex-maharaja’s wife Hemlata Rajye and daughter Shivranjani were also present as the night sky was lit up with a firework display. Simon Le Bon, leader singer of Duran Duran from the early 1980s, and his wife, Yasmin Le Bon, a former model, were among guests who lent glamour to the party at Bal Samand Palace, located by a lake. May 6: This has been already discussed in 2002 and it was actually going to happen if England had won the World Cup, but it didn't happen, so the guys abandoned the idea. According to 3am.co.uk it might happen this year... Just read! "Duran Duran are still quite cool as older bands go, so it’s ok to still like them, honestly. Rio Ferdinand [footballer - he plays at centre back for Manchester United in the Premier League and is captain of the England national team.] obviously agrees with us as he might be about to collaborate with them and re-release a version of one of their biggest hits… Rio. They’re all good mates apparently and Mark Ronson’s even up for remixing it as an unofficial World Cup song" Update on Jewels's book 'Dinner Accomplished'
April 28: I emailed JulieAnne Rhodes to ask how her biography book is progressing. She kindly answered my question: Hi Salvo: Thank you for your well wishes, and I'm thrilled you like reading the blog! You have no idea how happy that makes me! Nothing new with 'Dinner Accomplished' other than it is progressing nicely, and it is a cookbook [not an auto-biography as the Daily Mail reported]. I think they jumped to that conclusion since I enjoy writing about my experiences and "recipes for life" on my blog. With the book I hope to help the home cook learn the "personal chef approach" to cooking. How to do for themselves, what I do for my clients. I want them to rediscover the joy of cooking together with family and friends on weekends, so they can enjoy fast, fabulous home-cooked meals on hectic weekday nights. I will definitely let you know when there is a release date. One thing I have learned is that publishing is a very slow process. I want the book to be perfect... an interesting read, with beautiful pictures, and mouth-watering recipes you will want to make over and over again. Best
wishes, Roger Taylor turns 50 today!

June 17: video interview | check it out! Rolling Durans
June 17: Zine writer made his name hanging out with the Rolling Stones | From the interview: Q. I understand you played a role in keeping the band together when they almost broke up in the ’80s. A: I don’t know about that. But Keith was mad that “Brenda” – that’s Mick, and it was not a compliment – would hang out with flavor-of-the-month bands like Duran Duran. So he and Ronnie wrote songs with titles like “I’m Gonna Knock Your Teeth Out” and “Had It With You.” But I guess I was someone both Keith and Mick could talk to. Meredith on ES Homes and Property

May 17: Jacqui Smith, Labour Party politician, Home Secretary, Member of Parliament and... Duran Duran fan! "It is less than 24 hours since G20 protesters clashed with the police and, in her sizable central London office, the home secretary is considering which member of Duran Duran she fancied the most. "Hmmm," says Jacqui Smith, self-consciously, resting her head on the back of her chair, "I guess my favourite was Simon Le Bon." Does that hold true today, wonders Record Doctor. Plainly, the singer isn't what he was. "Well," she adds in defence of the man whose group soundtracked her years at Oxford University, "I haven't seen him recently but, yes, he did look a bit out of shape, and then..." She pauses, flummoxed, in search of the right phrase. "And then he kind of... erm, he got back into shape." [...] "Now what was music to me?" asks the 46-year-old. [Smith does this a lot, asks herself a question, as if the process helps her to fashion a response.]"It was stuff that supported the political stance I was taking, but it was also fun, party stuff. Duran Duran came into the party category. And," she says, waving her arms from side to side, grinning as she does so, "I liked to dance." Gary Kemp says "I was jealous" of Duran Duran
May 16: Gary Kemp says the death of his parents and seeing the reformed Duran Duran spurred him on to revive Spandau Ballet. [...] It pains him to say it [mainly because Duran/Spandau were the Blur/Oasis rivals of their day] but going to see Duran Duran at a sold-out Wembley Arena a couple of years ago really got him going again: "I was jealous." Neil Gaiman’s first four years of Duran Duran's history
May 16: Writer Duran Duran's book "the first four years" has been interviewed by the Irish Times | "His first big break came from a more unlikely direction. In 1984, he somehow secured a commission to write a book on Duran Duran. “I like to remember that my advance allowed me to go out and trade in my manual typewriter for an electric typewriter. That was quite a thing then,” he says. “Many years later I was invited onto this yacht by a film producer and, oddly, Simon Le Bon was part of the crew. We ended up getting on quite well, but I felt I had this secret. So I sidled up to him and eventually told him I’d written this book on Duran Duran. ‘The one with the grey cover?’ he said. ‘We liked that one’.” Sadly, the publisher of the Duran Duran opus went bust just after the first print run sold out. Ever since, he has made a point of only taking work that he truly believes in. “Then even if you don’t get the money you have done something cool and interesting.” Nice pic of Roger and Gisela in Peru

April 17: Nick Rhodes [Duran Duran]: Meeting people you admire is a dangerous sport, and, more often than not, you end up wounded. with Andy, this was simply not the case. Arriving at the Factory was like walking on a movie set: paintings everywhere, Brigid Berlin and Fred Hughes and an army of helpers. but Andy was as curious to meet the band as we were to meet him. February 10: This news isn't that fresh [it happened in october] but I think it's still worth reporting it... It's about Ian Fleming, the genius who created James Bond, secret agent 007, who was born 100 years ago on the 28th May. A year-long programme of events is under way to celebrate his life, his legacy as a writer, and the amazing impact that his fictional creation has had not only in Britain but all around the world, and also to raise money for charity. Duran Duran sadly couldn't make the Ian Fleming Centenary Gala evening but they sent a message of support. Lucy Fleming, Fleming's niece, went to meet them [in the pic with band].
